[Translate to English:] Rubén Dubrovsky

Rubén Dubrovsky was born in 1968 in Buenos Aries to parents of Italian and Polish heritage. His musical path was formed by two factors which continue to provide inspiration – his training as a classical cellist, and his love of traditional South American music, the roots of which can be found in European baroque music.

Rubén Dubrovsky is the versatile co-founder and director of the Bach Consort Wien, which has been praised in the press for its “conceptual clarity” as well as “thrilling virtuosity”.

In the 2011-12 season he assumed the position of artistic director of the „Winter in Schwetzingen“ Festival (Germany), where he conducted the German premiere of A. Scarlatti’s Marco Attilio Regolo as well as a gala Concert of music by G.F. Händel, W.A. Mozart und G. Rossini with countertenor Franco Fagioli. In the same season Rubén Dubrovsky conducted the Bach Consort Wien in a concert of South American baroque music.

Among the highlights of Rubén Dubrovsky’s busy conducting duties are J. S. Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Choir and Orchestra of the Spanish Radio, the modern premiere of Johann Joseph Fux’ oratorio Cristo nell’orto at Theater an der Wien’s festival ”Osterklang” and Styriate’s festival “Psalm” as well as The Seasons of Joseph Haydn at Schloss Esterházy.

Since his premieres at the Semperoper, Dresden (L´incoronazione di Poppea, C. Monteverdi), the Palau de les Arts Valencia (L’arbore di Diana, V. Martin y Soler) and at Opera Bonn (Orlando Furioso, A. Vivaldi), Rubén has established himself as one of today’s exciting interpreters of baroque and classical opera.

A large part of Rubén Dubrovsky’s conducting has been focused on the operas of G. F. Händel, whose Giulio CesareRinaldo and Radamisto (Theater Kiel) and Tamerlano (Opera Bonn) he has performed with considerable success. He also appeared in the Festival Pergolesi-Spontini 2011 (Ancona) with the Bach Consort Wien with the modern premiere of G.B. Pergolesi’s cantata La Maddalena al sepolcro

In 2012/13  Rubén will conduct Handel's Agrippina at the Theater Kiel as well as Handel's Oralndo and N. Porpora's Polifemo at the Theater an der Wien. In addition to concerts with the Bach Consort Wien, his commitments for the coming season also include performances with the Kammerochester Zurich and the Hilliard Ensemble in the Tonhalle, Zurich as well as a Handel Gala with the Musikcollegium Winterthur (CH).
