Agnes Stradner
Co-founder/ Concertmaster
Agnes Stradner is an internationally active Baroque violinist, chamber musician, concertmaster of the Bach Consort Vienna and sought-after specialist in historical performance practice.
Born into a Viennese family of musicians, she received her training in Vienna, Detmold and Berlin – studying with Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet), Young Uck Kim (Beaux Arts Trio), Ulf Wallin (Cherubini Quartet) and Eberhard Feltz, among others. Surrounded by historical instruments from an early age, she discovered her passion for the Baroque violin, which remains at the centre of her artistic work to this day.
Her heart beats for chamber music. With great dedication, Agnes Stradner initiates concert series, brings artists together and often combines music with literature or dance in her projects.
Her chamber music engagements have taken her throughout Europe and Latin America – in addition to Austria, primarily to Germany, Italy, Croatia, Spain, Portugal and Argentina. Her current focus is on the trio sonatas and fugues of J. S. Bach and the chamber music of the Austrian Baroque.
In addition to her work with the Bach Consort Wien, Agnes Stradner regularly collaborates with renowned original instrument ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Les Musiciens du Louvre and Les Musiciens du Prince – Monte Carlo.
Under conductors such as René Jacobs, Ton Koopman, Alan Curtis, Gianluca Capuano and Marc Minkowski, she has made numerous CD recordings and toured throughout Europe, Asia and Latin America.
In Vienna, Agnes Stradner teaches a class for baroque violin and viola and conducts the baroque ensemble at the Döbling Music School. She also regularly gives masterclasses and workshops on baroque violin, historical performance practice and chamber music.
She plays a violin made by Giovanni Battista Grancino in 1699.
